November 2006
The MPS Emerald Society send two delegates to the National Conference of Law Enforcement Emerald Societies to be held in New Haven, Connecticut. This was the first time that any kind of representation outside of North America attended the business meeting where Patrick OHara and Paul Ryan were presented with a plaque by Dennis Long - NCLEES President on behalf of the MPSES for their contribution to Irish related affairs - click here for report

The MPS Emerald Society stage their second annual Social at Ryan's Bar, Carter Lane, City of London. The party started at 1900 and ended at late into the night, with an appearance from the MPS Emerald Society Pipes and Drums, Union Street (a four piece band) and a disco. All those members who attended were treated to a free buffet and drinks voucher.

The MPS Emerald Society holds their first annual general meeting in the fifth floor briefing room at New Scotland Yard. Presentations were given by the Chairman, Secretary and Assistant Treasurer and the membership were given the opportunity to question the Executive Committee.

October 2006
The Hendon Gaels announce that they will be hosting the Langan Cup to be held at Bushey Sports Club in September 2007. This is a two day Gaelic Football tournament between the football teams of An Garda Soichana, The New York Police Department, The Police Service of Northern Ireland and The Metropolitan Police Service. The MPS Emerald Society has been asked for assistance in staging this event and are proud to give whatever support they can to the Hendon Gaels to ensure that this event is not only a success but also raises the profile of Irish related sport within the Police Service.

September 2006
The MPS Emerald Society takes a party of 38 people on a guided tour of the Battlefields of Ypres and The Salient. This trip was in memory of the Great War, the trip had been specifically tailored to the Irish contribution in the campaign and was a huge success. Photo gallery now on-line.

The Emerald family grows ever larger with Lincolnshire Police reporting that they have now been given authority from their force to set-up their own Emerald Society. There are currently 24 members... Well Done Lincolnshire!

The MPS Emerald Society welcomes on board Commander Shaun Sawyer, the most senior ranking member yet. Shaun has been appointed an Executive Member of the committee, and becomes the President.

The MPS Emerald Society begin planning their contribution to the St Patrick's Day Parade, London, 2007 likely to be held on Sunday 11th March 2007. Plans are afoot to invite a Police contingent from Forces outside the MPS and ALL Chief Constables in the UK will be invited to send a delegation.

The Emerald Society announce their intention to return to New York, USA for the St Patrick's Day Parade, 2007.

The MPS Emerald Society congratulates Kelly McGrath who made it through the first round of the London Rose Festival. Kelly will now go on to the London Final to be held in Cricklewood in London in June. If successful Kelly will represent London in the famous Rose of Tralee Festival in Ireland. The MPS Emerald Society is proudly sponsoring Kelly entry into the event.

The Emerald Society expresses it's sincere condolence and sympathies to the family friends and colleagues of Special Constable Nisha Patel-Nasri who was fatally stabbed outside her home in Wembley in the early hours of Friday 12 May. Flowers have been sent on behalf of the Society as a mark of condolence and sympathy.

The Emerald Society announce an intention to attend the National Police memorial Day to be held in Belfast on 1st October. Register an interest via the events section on this web-site.

8 - 15 May 2006
Officers from the Police Service of Northern Ireland and An Garda Síochána attend the Metropolitan Police Training College in Hendon to complete an 'auto crimes' course. During the week long course the Emerald Society organises an evening at the Tower of London as guests of the Yeoman Warders to watch the Ceremony of the Keys and visits to the Palace of Westminster, Houses of Parliament and Downing Street.

The Pipes and Drums of the Emerald Society are officially formed and their first lesson is held in South London. New members always welcome regardless of musical experience.

A new website is launched for the Emerald Society - www.mpsemeralds.org.uk where merchandise will be on sale along with details about the Society, upcoming events, pictures, news and other items will be posted.

The Emerald Society announces a Family Day to be held at Imber Court on 1st July 2006 where there will be a children's assault course, bouncy castle, entertainment, food, classic cars display, dogs and mounted section, fire and ambulance service attendance. This event is FREE to members.

The Emerald Society announces a Battlefield Trip to France and Belgium in September. Those interested will visit the town of Ypres and Somme travelling on a luxury coach from London and stay 2 nights in a 4* hotel with guided tours. A wreath will be laid at the scene. Payment of £150 by end of May 2006 - Pay Online!

New York St Patrick's Day 2006 - 15 Officers from the MPS Emerald Society attended New York and paraded in full uniform for the St Patrick's Day Parade as guests of the US Department of Homeland Security Customs and Border Protection Team. The event was a huge success that planning is already underway for a similar trip in 2007.

London St Patrick's Day 2006 - Approximately 40 members of the Emerald Society including family and friends attended the St Patrick's Day Parade in London. Officers walked the parade route in uniform to a round of applause from the crowd.

The MPS Emerald Society holds it's first official function for members, entitled a 'Social Evening'. The event was held at Wellington Barracks the base of the British Army's 1st Battalion Irish Guards. Over 250 members and guests attended the event and were treated to a buffet style meal, music from a traditional band and a selection of Irish dancing.
